The barcode generator is the extension of qrcodeerstellung.de, the German QR code generator. After many users asked for EAN-13 for their products, Code 128 for shipping or PZN codes for pharmacy goods in addition to QR codes, we extended the generator to all common barcode symbologies – now more than 140 types in 13 categories.

How barcodes are produced

Symbols are rendered server-side with the open-source library bwip-js (Barcode Writer in Pure JavaScript, a port of the proven BWIPP PostScript encoder). Check digits are computed or verified, GS1 application identifiers are parsed, and the result is available as PNG with adjustable module width or as lossless SVG. Every barcode has a stable URL that can be embedded directly in websites, label software or spreadsheets.

Why free?

The tool is financed by advertising that is only loaded with your consent. There is no registration, no watermark, no expiry of generated codes and no restriction to private use. We do not store the content of your barcodes; we only count anonymously which barcode types are used so that we can expand documentation where it matters.

Editorial accuracy

The descriptions of the individual symbologies are maintained against the respective standards (ISO/IEC 15417, 15420, 16022, 18004, 24778, GS1 General Specifications, IFA specifications for PZN/PPN, SIX Swiss Payment Standards, EPC069-12). If you find an error or miss a barcode type, please get in touch.
