About MSI
MSI (Modified Plessey) is a numeric barcode mainly used for shelf labels in retail and warehouse management. Several check digit schemes (Mod 10, Mod 11) are possible.
Data format
Digits only. A Mod 10 check digit is appended.
Example: 1234567
Linear Codes
One-dimensional barcodes consist of parallel bars and spaces of varying width. They are the industry standard for logistics, warehousing, inventory, tickets and product marking, readable by any laser or camera scanner.
Frequently asked questions about MSI
Is the MSI generator really free?
Yes. You can create as many MSI barcodes as you like and download them as PNG or SVG – no registration, no watermark, commercial use included.
What resolution does the MSI barcode have?
PNG files are generated with adjustable module width and up to 600 DPI. For print we recommend the lossless SVG vector format which scales without any quality loss.
Is my data stored?
No. The barcode content is only processed to render the image and is not stored. We only count anonymously how often a barcode type is used.
Can I embed MSI barcodes in my website or software?
Yes. Every barcode has a stable image URL (see “Embed HTML”) which you can use in websites, label software or spreadsheets.
