About GS1 DataMatrix
GS1 DataMatrix is the mandatory code for serialising prescription medicines in the EU (FMD/securPharm) and for UDI marking of medical devices: GTIN, expiry, lot and serial in a symbol of a few millimetres.

AIs in brackets; FNC1 is prepended automatically.

GS1 2D Barcodes
GS1 2D codes combine the application identifier data structure – e.g. (01) GTIN, (17) expiry, (10) lot – with the compact Data Matrix and QR Code symbols. They are mandatory in pharma serialisation and the basis of GS1 Digital Link.

Is the GS1 DataMatrix generator really free?
Yes. You can create as many GS1 DataMatrix barcodes as you like and download them as PNG or SVG – no registration, no watermark, commercial use included.
What resolution does the GS1 DataMatrix barcode have?
PNG files are generated with adjustable module width and up to 600 DPI. For print we recommend the lossless SVG vector format which scales without any quality loss.
Is my data stored?
No. The barcode content is only processed to render the image and is not stored. We only count anonymously how often a barcode type is used.
Can I embed GS1 DataMatrix barcodes in my website or software?
Yes. Every barcode has a stable image URL (see “Embed HTML”) which you can use in websites, label software or spreadsheets.
